Carrier’s pre-trip inspection 2-way command, available within the Lynx Fleet platform, lets fleet managers and service teams remotely initiate a comprehensive pre-trip inspection of TRUs (transport refrigeration units) before a journey begins. This advanced command automates a series of diagnostic tests, identifying potential issues with critical components and providing clear pass/fail results directly in the system. With remote, real-time inspections, the pre-trip 2-way command helps ensure equipment reliability, reduces the risk of unexpected breakdowns, and supports regulatory compliance. Ultimately, this feature enhances operational efficiency, improves safety, and minimizes costly delays by allowing issues to be addressed proactively—before assets hit the road.
Note: Pre-Trip Inspection is available for APX and Advanced controllers only.

Overview of Pre-trip Inspection
The Pre-trip Inspection feature in Lynx Fleet allows you to remotely initiate a pre-trip inspection and to view the results of the inspection
The TRU must be ON to initiate a pre-trip inspection. The inspection will take up to 15 minutes to run, during which time the temperature control (cooling) functions will be disabled.
A Pre-Trip inspection will run a series of up to 17 tests on an asset to determine if it is ready for use. The tests that can be run during the pre-trip inspection are:
Test 1: Display test
Test 2: 12VDC Electrical component amperage check
Test 3: Temperature sensor check
Test 4: Engine low speed
Test 5: Engine high speed
Test 6: Check engine very high speed
Test 7: Check engine very low speed
Test 8: Engine low speed (2)
Test 9: Electric heater amperage check
Test 10: Evaporator fan motor
Test 11: Condenser fan motors
Test 12: Check suction modulation valve (CSMV)
Test 13: Evaporator expansion valve (EVXV)
Test 14: Economizer expansion valve (ECXV)
Test 15: Liquid injection solenoid valve (LIV)
Test 16: Check remote expansion valves
Test 17: Check for other alarms
Each of these tests will have a Pass or Fail result.
Initiating a Pre-Trip Inspection
There are two methods of initiating a pre-trip in Lynx Fleet. The TRU must be ON to run a pre-trip inspection. If the TRU is off, the action to start a pre-trip inspection will be grayed out.
From Asset Tracking: Select the row of the asset you want from the Asset Tracking table and click the Actions button above the grid. Select the Start a Pre-trip Inspection option.
2. From Asset Details: Click on the Actions button in the Asset Details header. Select the Start a Pre-trip Inspection option.
Once you select the Start a Pre-Trip Inspection action, a confirmation pop-up will display. Click the Yes, Start button to begin the pre-trip inspection. The results can take up to 15 minutes and will be visible in Lynx Fleet.
Viewing Pre-Trip Results
The View Last Pre-Trip Inspection pop-up will display. The overall pre-trip status is displayed in the pop-up's header. This will indicate if the pre-trip is still in progress or has been completed.
The Results column in the table will show whether each sub-test has passed or failed.
